SIRONA in PLITVICE CROATIA
SHOOTING SIRONA by JAMES
Sandy had just won the German version of Germany’s Top Model she had been working well, this shot was a filler shot for the calendar however i love this ans spent a little more time on the finished image. The background was shot in the superb lakes of Croatia but the actual shot of Sandy was taken in the Amphitheater of Pula and she was hootign with me the look for the Oracle of Delphi which was never used.
It was a composite which was needed to complete the amount of images in the calendar but at the last minute it was downgraded to a shot in the back.
The Challenge was in Post Production
The images were taken with a different light source and for me in compositing its important that the lighting is consistent and balanced. It is this which makes it believable as a picture. The back ground was lit by sunshine first thing in the morning but the foreground shot of Sandy was taken under a diffused beauty box in Pula so quite a contrast.
The final shot looks great and one of our favourites, it take a while to do but the result is satisfactory and a place in the book for JNP was suitable given
How it all mapped out.
This is the shot which we used for the post produced image above, careful planning needed.
SANDY was a flawlessly professional model, lying down on the job she was relaxed and ready to work, The whole team looked on as did i think in excess of 100 people as we shot in the Amphitheater in Pula. She is actually lying down on one of the plynths there and this formed part of the Oracle of Delphi look but this was shelved by all as it didn’t have enough styling or look convincing
CROATIA: The Plitvice National Park Lakes
Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera, colloquial Plitvice, is the oldest national park in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. The protected area extends over 296.85 square kilometres (73,350 acres). About 90% of this area are part of Lika-Senj County, while the remaining 10% are part of Karlovac County
Other images shot but not used
This image below was the first to be completed but it was felt not quite believable as the shot lasted only 4 minutes before we had to move on. The main shot above was a composite from the location with another shot from Pula.

In this image of Sandy as Goddess Sirona was also rejected based on the feeling that it was a little too painterly and not as realistic as the calendar needed to be seen, however we love this shot because of the depth and unusual mix of images. Probably an composite of over 25 shots taken at the time we were at the lakes.
